This year at the 7th annual Technology Ventures Conference, we’re hosting a competition to identify the most promising tech start-ups exhibiting at our technology showcase. The competition is split into several stages, each offering unique benefits to entrants.
Why exhibit at the Tech Ventures Conference?
In short: great PR, the attention of investors and the chance to win specialist business advice and access to the transatlantic market.
The Prizes
The grand prize is a free base camp in Silicon Valley at the prestigious incubator, the Plug and Play Tech Center, for a three month business development trip.

The most promising student teams will progress to two global competitions:
 |
The chance to win the VT Knowledge Works Global Challenge Trophy for your university and a cash prize of $25,000.
|
 |
The opportunity to be one of the UK’s entries to the DFJ-Cisco Global Business Plan Competition which bears a cash prize of $250,000.
|
All of the finalists will win free business development advice from Cambridge cluster organisations with expertise in high-growth businesses and advising market leaders. The aim of this award is to help you raise your game across the board and better compete with incumbents in your target markets.

Stage I: Video Pitches
Before the start of the competition, entrants will get the chance to put a ~1 min video pitch on our homepage video player. Get your applications in quick if you want to get noticed.
Stage II: VIP Networking Breakfast
On the morning of the conference, all start-up companies showcasing at the competition will be invited to the VIP Networking Breakfast. This will be your opportunity to interact with investors, entrepreneurs and speakers before the crowds arrive and gauge the competition early on.
Stage III: The Technology Showcase
The Technology Showcase is a platform to demonstrate products, prototypes, technologies and brands. We have a small number of larger companies presenting, who will certainly come with a professional booth, so be prepared. An effective software demo or a proof-of-concept can highlight the difference between a brilliant idea and a real business opportunity. Last year saw CNBC, the Guardian, the BBC, local and business news organisations attending, so an eye-catching display will bring chances for interviews. The most promising companies will be shortlisted by popular vote as finalists and will pitch to the Investors’ Panel.
Stage IV: The Investors’ Panel
At the end of the conference day, finalists will pitch to a panel of investors to win the top prize and be named “best startup of 2010″. All start-ups are reminded that they are pitching to investors with capital and experience of seeding businesses. The winner will also be invited to the VIP dinner.
